The record board is of the recessed flip-down or slide-in type. A small record board is 500mm wide × 400mm high × 300mm deep; where conditions permit, the size may also be enlarged. When closed, the writing board should be flush with the wall surface, and it folds down for use; manufacturers often supply it as a standard product as part of a complete set. The opened board surface of a seated-type writing board is 800mm above the floor, and that of a standing-type writing board is 1 000mm above the floor.

The record board is commonly made of stainless steel plate with a thickness of 1.2mm.

The record board cabinet should be sealed; the cabinet may omit an interior light, but must be fitted with a safety grounding terminal.
