Medical Gas Terminal Units
Medical gas is one of the essential pieces of equipment required for auxiliary treatment in the operating room. In the operating room, gas terminal devices should be provided in duplicate (one in use and one on standby): one wall-mounted type as the backup, and one installed on the pendant as the terminal for normal use. The gas source is delivered from the various gas stations through pipelines to the operating room terminals, and when needed, it is connected to the patient or instruments via plugs.
The backup gas terminal box must be installed within the side wall of the operating room (Figure 6.10). The box should be recessed (flush-mounted) and must not protrude from the wall
Figure 6.10 One type of backup medical gas terminal in the operating room side, the box must be sealed. The standby gas terminal should be installed adjacent to the position of the patient's head on the operating table, at a height of approximately 1–1.2 m; it must not be installed at the patient's feet, and care should be taken not to obstruct passage.
